Perhaps "deem awesome" wasn't the best way of putting it, but isn't that
sort of what we do when we accept new members? The individual who wants to
become a member usually proves themselves in some way or another, offering
to teach a class, helping out with a project or simply not being a douchebag
are some examples I've seen. You're certainly not required to do something
that makes people go ooh and aah over.
